Community Amenities:

Open to all Windingwalk residents and their guests, the WindingTrails Recreation Center is the perfect venue for formal parties, summertime gatherings or just to relax by the pool. Basketball courts, picnic pavilions, and a wide-open lawn area help to make this a center of community activity.
A home should be a place to rest and relax even when you venture outside your house. From shopping and recreation facilities to parks and open space, education opportunities and more, everything you need is just outside your doorstep at Windingwalk.
World-class shopping is just a stroll away.
The brand-new Otay Ranch Town Center, which will include over 100 new retail and specialty stores and restaurants, a movie theater and more, is located just across the street from Windingwalk, running the length of the community’s western edge. It’s a true shopper’s delight, perfect for an hours-long extravaganza or a quick ten-minute pickup. Most of the stores and restaurants are already open, and more are coming in this spring and summer. Windingwalk residents are among the area’s closest.
A new convenient road to get you there, and get you home.
Scheduled to open soon, the south portion of state Route 125, a toll road with on and off ramps at Olympic Parkway near Windingwalk, has been named the South Bay Expressway. Currently under construction, the nearly 10-mile road extends from state Route 54 in Spring Valley to state Route 905 in Otay Mesa.
An ‘everyday convenience’ retail center just for Windingwalk.
Construction also began this summer on Windingwalk’s own ten-acre neighborhood retail center, the Marketplace. Vons, Wells Fargo Bank and Happy Nails salon have confirmed sites at the Marketplace, and plans are moving forward for other everyday neighborhood conveniences such as a business service center, drycleaners, and eateries on the first level, plus 43 work-loft spaces above. The Marketplace is scheduled to open in Spring 2008.
Two community centers for activities and recreation.
Ask any resident what they love about Windingwalk, and you’re certain to find the 4,343-square-foot WindingTrails Recreation Center near the top of the list. From baby showers to birthday parties, it’s the perfect combination of atmosphere and amenities. The Irving Gill-inspired, indoor-outdoor center echoes the entire theme of Windingwalk, with its warm earth-tone colors, wood and wrought iron in furniture and fixtures, and refined-rustic architectural details like columns, trellises, and covered walkways.
A spacious courtyard with fireplace, multi-purpose entertainment room and large gourmet catering kitchen are ideally suited for a special gatherings, and the family-friendly facility also includes a competitive-size pool, wading pool and spa. WindingTrails also includes basketball courts; children’s play equipment, picnic pavilions and a wide-open lawn area. Property maintenance and upkeep are covered by homeowners’ association dues, to ensure that the facility can be enjoyed today and years into the future.
Construction began this summer on a second facility, WindingOaks Recreation Center. Occupying three acres, planned features include a resort-style pool, Olympic-style pool, spa, showers, locker rooms, restroom facilities, grassy play areas, conference and event spaces, including an open courtyard area with covered gazebo. The Irving Gill-style structure features dramatic entry towers, archways and covered walkways. WindingOaks Recreation Center is scheduled to open in Spring 2008.
Trails, Neighborhood Parks and a Town Square
At Windingwalk, the outdoor lifestyle is just as important as what goes on inside the home. In addition to the tree-shaded pedestrian pathways and nature trails that meander through the community and adjacent open space, Windingwalk offers several dedicated parks. Our 9-acre public park, which opened last fall, features basketball and tennis courts, a skate park, softball field, picnic areas and restrooms. Two other planned neighborhood parks tucked within the community will offer over seven acres of recreational space, and Windingwalk also will have a one-acre Town Square, featuring a grassy common area and gazebo for community events other gatherings. Adjacent to the Town Square is a designated community purpose facility, planned to house a future day care, church, private school or other benefit for residents.
Meandering in and around Windingwalk are pedestrian pathways linking neighborhoods to community ammenities and connecting to nearly 20 miles of natural hiking trails throughout Otay Ranch.
State of the art education facilities
An elementary school and a junior high school are planned within Windingwalk. Like many of us did when we were young, our kids will have the opportunity to walk to and from school along tree-lined neighborhood streets, play with school friends at the parks on the weekends and form study groups within their own neighborhoods.
Directly to the south of Windingwalk, construction is scheduled to begin early next year on High Tech High, a new charter high school planned to consist of approximately 16 acres with a two story facility serving up to 500 students. Approximately 150 9th grade students will begin classes this fall at the school’s temporary site at Mater Dei High school. High Tech High will transition to its new campus once construction is completed, currently scheduled for fall 2008.
